Negative Concord first met at one of Patrick McCulley's solo shows-playing music that would make up his sophomore release"Kingdom of Rain". There, we were introduced by a mutual friend and quickly started making a plan to try out composing with ondes Martenot and saxophones. What had begun as an ambient, jazz bent experiment soon took root as our band.
As composers, we like to write from an improvisational perspective, often bringing to rehearsals just a melodic seed, or a two/three note series with a pre-empted 'vibe-idea.' For instance, the opening of our debut album, "Stalker" started as the ever-present arpeggio loop, then bloomed into a complete arragement after I was deeply impressed upon by "Roadside Picnic" (by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky) and Patrick uncovered his mournful, yearning melody on the alto. "Stalker" plus the rest of the songs that became our first album"Negative Concord"were solidified over two or so years of live shows, and buffered by a techno-y re-imagining of Radiohead's "Hunting Bears" (not available on Bandcamp). We managed to produce the record almost fully in house, with some additional production by dear friendJoanna Penaand mastering by fellow ondist and friendJosh Semans.

At present we are writing and recording our second record "Nokturno", intending to independently release Spring 2026.
